Early Colorimeter signed A. Jobin, Paris made in brass copper cast iron and glass. A colorimeter is defined in the Dictionary of Chemistry in 1863 as ' an instrument for measuring the depth of colour by comparison with a standard liquid of the same tint'. This form of Colorimeter was designed by Duboscq and first notified to the scientific community in 1868 - though it did not appear in his catalog of 1870. This example by Amédée Jobin probably dates from around 1885. As an instrument for analysis it proved increasingly important and was made by several manufacturers until the 1950s when it was superseded by electronic instruments. The condition of this instrument is such that it would appear to be unused. base 5.5" (14 cm) x 4.5" (11.5 cm) height 11.5" (29 cm)
