Description:

The Lambeth Patent pedestal combination 'flush-out closet' in 'Raised Acanthus picked out in blue glaze' made by Doultons at Horley near Wootton in Oxfordshire, England marketed in 1857. Years ago I used to buy and sell Victorian loos on a regular basis, but the supply of good examples dried up, to coin a phrase. This was the one I kept as the finest example I ever bought and it has been in use in my house for nearly thirty years. As we are moving house I decided to replace it with something more modern as I can't be sure the prospective buyer will be suitably appreciative of this fixture and there are already enough other 'curiosities' in my house to make it a marketing challenge! The loo is near perfect except for a hairline crack by the front right hand hole and a tiny chip on the base at the rear totally invisible when the loo is fitted. The blue glazing is far superior to tranfer prints on other decorated Victorian loos and examples are much rarer. Reference: Temples of Convenience by Lucinda Lambton. height 16.5" (42 cm) depth front to back of water inlet 20.5" (52 cm) base width 9.5" (24 cm) Transport at cost.
