Black Forrest carved wood anaroid barometer with enamel dial and ormalu bezzel. The Black Forrest in Germany was renouned for its wood carvers in the nineteenth century. They made the finest carved cockoo clocks in the world and some of the most fantastic carved wood furniture often including full sized animals. Good pieces command huge prices today. Until this barometer 'turned up' I had never seen anything quite like this before in the flesh or illustrated. I think it must be very rare, none of the reference books that I have seen on the work of the Black Forrest carvers illustrate anything like it.
