| Electric Fan by "TOVY" |
|---|
Rare and early electric fan with the name "Tovy" engraved on the centre button of the fan guard. On the top is stamped 200/250v for the voltage. In the UK it is illegal to sell antique electrical items for use but I can inform my readers that under safe laboratory conditions the electric motor runs normally on a voltage not too different from the British mains supply. The fan body is made of silver metal as is the base which is weighted and still covered under the base with, rather rubbed, original red velvet. The fan support is made unusually of turned wood with most of its original black paint intact. The silk covered wire is also original and appears to be in remarkably good condition. This little fan is 12" (31cm)high, the blade guard is 7.5" (20cm) in diameter. I believe this fan to be very rare simply because in all the years I have been selling such items this is the first of its type I have ever had or seen. I find it quite difficult to date certainly no later than the early 1920s but it could easily pre-date 1910
