Scottish hand carved cow horn with the motto inscribed round the middle "HONI SOIT QUI MALY PENCE" (evil be to him who thinks evil), with etched drawings of people - Scottish lord and lady; soldier and his sweetheart, two children and a drunken tar (sailor) with a peg leg waving a bottle. Stylistically the lettering is early nineteenth century and the lord and lady are in early Scottish plaid of a similar date. Condition near perfect no cracks, some slight scoring on one side about an inch to an inch and a half from the narrow end. Guaranteed genuine and full refund, including all transport costs, if not satisfied for any reason provided it is returned to Early Technology. This is one of the best examples of early Scottish folk art I have seen. Length round the outside curve 13" (33 cm).
