| Stone cross bow by Barrow of Preston | Signature Barrow Preston | Close-up of walnut stock | Firing mechanism |
|---|
Very fine and neat "Stone Bow" by Burrow of Preston, England, with a fine cross cut walnut stock and steel bow, folding front sights and fittings complete and genuinely untouched except for the bow string which is lacking. The cocking mechanism unclips from the back of the stock and lifts up to allow the central mechanism to catch the bow string. all mechanism is complete and working. The bow appears perfectly capable of performing as well as it did originally, trigger mechanism intact and functioning. Slight rust and much dried grease on exposed surfaces but bright steel on unexposed surfaces, no pitting. The wooden furniture is in near mint condition with all original polish apparently intact. steel work with some good engraving, steel acorn finial, signed on top. This is a completely untouched piece with no burring on the screws. Further close-up pictures of any part can be added to this site on request. It is very unusual for me to get an early piece like this which is intact and I'm certain has never been restored. Late eighteenth or early nineteenth century. size bow 21" length 26"
