Description:

Percussion gun burglar alarm with four discharges with a brass insert "Isaac Naylor Patent" and the proof stamp VR and crown. Isaac Naylor patent number 7232 granted 22 November 1836 for "Alarm-gun or reporter and detector". Made from a heavy block of cast iron all four chambers are connected by a horozontal bore running along the length of the block at the rear (accessed for loading with powder by removing screws at each end) each barrel being connected to this by a small central hole in the rear of each chamber. After priming the barrels and the rear tube a percussion cap is placed on the star shaped nipple and this can be covered by a safety cap. In use the leaf spring is raised and held in place over the percussion cap by a chained pin the top ring of which is attached to a trip wire. The alarm can be anchored securely by a stake through the vertical hole in the centre. This is a rare example of a multiple barrel alarm and the opnly example I have ever seen to date. Stamped with the number 2288. 6.5" (17 cm) x 2.75" (7 cm) x 2" (5 cm)
