Nineteenth century handcuffs made by Hyatt specially for securing maximum security prisoners at Changi jail in Singapore (information supplied by Hyatt, Birmingham, England). These handcuffs are not stamped indicating a very early date of manufacture probably the last quarter of the nineteenth century but possibly earlier. They are quite the nastiest pair of handcuffs I've ever offered for sale. As a restraint the unfortunate prisoner would be pretty well incapacitated with both hands locked tightly together restricting virtually any use of the hands. The security of these handcuffs is virtually total. To release them one first has to remove a grub screw (which when tight is not flush with the casing but slightly recessed) using the two pins at one end of the key. Removing this grub screw exposes the key hole, the next stage is to screw in the other end of the key shaped like an engineer's tap clockwise until it drops 'free' below the length of the screw thread. Next the key is pushed in until it engages with the innermost level of the barrel and then turned anti-clockwise until the cuffs seperate and can be hinged back. The process has to be reversed to lock the prisoner up. It is quite inconceivable that anyone could pick such a lock without a similar key as the mechanism is engineered so well and so tightly. These must be amongst the rarest handcuffs it is possible to find and certainly the most daunting. Price includes Fedex delivery outside the UK and insurance
