Weight driven stock ticker by The Exchange Telegraph Co. Ltd on its stand under a glass dome numbered 2271 (in gold on top of the black base in the front). The stand contains the weight and the paper roll for printing out the stock and share results. Such instruments were situated not only in the Stock exchange but also in newspaper offices and gentlemen's clubs. The feature of stock exchange telegraph printers is that all the terminals are operated simultaneously from a central terminal and the printouts are in type so they can be easily read by anyone. This particular telegraph, although dating from trhe beginning of the last century, could have been in use until after World War II the phone junction box inside the pedestal could easily date from this period as well as the red and black plastic wiring. The telegraph itself is entirely original. The condition can only be described as immaculate due no doubt to its being housed throughout its life under a glass dome. For many years it has been on loan to the British Telecoms Museum but when the collection was dispersed to other national museums this instrument was returned to its owner from whom it was purchased. There may be another example of this rare piece of telegraphic kit somewhere else also in wonderful condition but for sure it couldn't be any better! I normally don't use the word 'immaculate', like 'mint' it is almost a no no but in this case it is justified, no photo can properly convey the reality. Higher resolution images available on request. Transport extra arranged at cost. Stand 47.5" (120 cm) high, 12" (30.5 cm) x 11.5" (28.5 cm) Height with telegraph and dome 58" (147 cm) Plate on front and on the ink cover "The Exchange Telegraph Co. Ltd. also engraved with the company name on the brass front plate.
