Description:

Early and very rare Edison Spring Motor phonograph with Bettini reproducer and silver Bettini horn, together with spare arm and shaving attachment for Edison reproducer and recorder, plus two other parts,(unidentified). The Spring Motor phonograph was supplied in 1896 with a distinctive sewing-machine overall lid until recased in 1901 in a "New Style" cabinet which became the Edison pattern. it was then named the Triumph. The Bettini attachment and reproducer in combination with this Edison machine, (or any other), is even rarer and at the risk of overkill the addition of the original Bettini horn is yet rarer still. This is a quite exceptional collector's piece and the addition of the Edison arm with its shaving attachment makes the unit complete. The silver plated Bettini horn and elbow is 22" long and in excellent condition apart from some creases on the bell. The phonograph is in good condition with all the black enamel complete but there is some of the gold lining missing. The motor is in a very clean condition and shows little sign of wear. The case is in near mint condition size 16.5" x 10.5" height with horn in place 31" Caption round the Bettini reproducer "BETTINI'S MICRO PHONOGRAPH ATTACHMENT NEW YORK" and at the front "Aug 89 Bettini's Patents Dec 92". The plaque on the handle "National Phono Co orange NJ" is the first I've ever seen - (I used to collect phonographs, so I've seen hundreds - genuinely).Serial number on the phonograph 24398 and on the motor 2614. This is the best phonograph I've offered for sale in the 1990s. It was the prize piece in a formidable collection. Circa 1897
