Description:

Pocket anaroid barometer/altimeter with silvered dial and gilded case together with a fahrenheit thermometer on a circular bone scale ring contained in a velvet lined leather case. Pocket barometers were sometimes used as altimeters for ballooning and mountain climbing. The external ring can be rotated and the zero is set to the ground level pressure. Altimeter readings are made as the atmospheric pressure decreases with increasing height. The scale on the external ring is marked off in units of 100 feet. Thermometer and barometer both in good working order. Gilding on barometer ring partially missing and small part of the gilding missing from one side, otherwise the gilding is excellent. the case is a bit shabby and missing the top half of the catch.
