Description:

The Coffman typewriter was a cheap linear index machine with a very short lifespan 1902-3 hence examples are always described as very rare. It was sold for $5 and $10 there are said to be two models but this one seems to be a third having a wood base and therefor certainly not a 'pocket typewriter'. This example also has a serial number 1689 stamped on the base. Note also the screw adjustment under the base for adjusting the line spacing a feature not present(?) on the other known examples. The typewriter is mechanically complete and working but lacks its rubber type script. Some of the original plating remains. Base 13.5" (34 cm) x 5.75" (14.5 cm)
