This is a first for me a stuffed double headed calf mounted on a wood shield. The two heads are set at an angle of about 160º to each other and between them they have four eyes, two mouths, two noses and three ears. (actually slightly less than three ears,the one on the left hand side is partly missing but this is the only defect in an otherwise perfect specimen of a siamese calf). My first thought was that this was a clever fake but now after it was examined by a vet I am certain that this is genuine and am prepared to sell it with this guarantee. A retired veterinary surgeon who examined it told me that in the early days of his practice after the war he had seen several examples of double headed calfs born, (all of which were either born dead or died shortly after birth) but that selective breeding had eliminated this malformation. He also added that this was the first example he had seen with three ears. To confirm the authenticity of this example he pointed out the circular crown which can be seen clearly in the photo of the top of the heads which he said could not be faked and was therefor visual proof of siamese calfs. There is stitching under the mid point of the neck to join the incision made by the taxidermist in preparing this specimen, (which is normal), but no stitching or other join on the top of the heads. Accordingly I guarantee it is genuine and as such is one of the freakiest things I have ever offered for sale. I purchased this amongst the contents of a house I was clearing.
