Are these the original Roller Blades? Years ago I saw a picture of these and my memory was that the date quoted was 1910 but perhaps I am wrong. These skates seem to date from circa 1925. Ever since I saw a drawing of them in an old trade catalogue I've wanted a pair, the idea of trying to skate on a couple of small bicycles always appealed to my sense of the ridiculous. Finally here they are. Obviously they haven't had much use as they are virtually mint - no apparent wear on the rubber tyres. Plating is gleaming apart from some minor rust on one of the foot plates. The leather straps are also (unusually) in perfect condition, ditto the wood work apart from minor scuffs. "The Ritter Patent" and "The Roller Skate Co 271 Oxford Street London" and Right and Left stamped on the front part of the foot plates. I imagine the 'brakes' are applied by attaching string to the holes in them and pulling it when one wants to stop or slow down. They are quite ready for use though I wouldn't recommend it. Wheels 6" (15 cm) diameter, 17" (43 cm) overall length, 24.5" (62 cm) height. Price includes delivery
