Edison Ticker Tape Machine Ameerican late nineteenth century stamped M'F'D by T. A. Edison Inc, 11940. The electrically powered mechanism with horse-shoe magnets and coils, double printing wheels and reel of paper on an iron stand with a glass dome and a brass plaque engraved "Edison Stock Ticker. This authentic old self winding stock ticker was designed by Thomas A. Edison in 1870. It was used for about eighty years for receiving stock and commodity quotations from the nation's leading exchanges." This example was sold by Sotheby's in 1987 (23 June lot 40) for £1,980 - catalogue entry with photo and auction results will be sent with the instrument. 10.5" (27 cm) high
