Thomas Homes Blakesley's Patent Apparatus for measuring the time constant of an electrical circuit made by J. T. Mair & Co. London in 1884. Thomas Blakesley was a practical scientist and mathematician, a colleague of W. Preece, Fleming and others with several inventions to his name. His interests covered electrical transmission with particular reference to telegraphy and telephony and one of the problems was the time delays caused by self induction and mutual induction over long distances such as submarine cables. This apparatus was invented to measure this problem. It is a beautifully made piece of apparatus and is supplied with a photocopy of the patent provisional application and complete specification and drawings. Apparatus height 20.5" (52 cm) base 12" (30.5 cm) dome 25" (64 cm) x 9.5" (24 cm) Transport at cost.
