Catalogue number #442496415
Good reflecting telescope signed Bate. The trade label in the box indicates that the maker was Robert Brettell Bate, 21 Poultry, London. He worked at this address from 1824 until his death in 1847. The 2.75" (7 cm) telescope is equipped with a fixed focus sighting telescope mounted on the side, tripod, two eyepieces of different strengths, a clear filter and a dark filter interchangeable to each eyepiece and a spare secondary mirror. The mirrors are all in superb condition - see photos and in consequence the telescope works beautifully. The power of this telescope is amazing. See the last two photos. From about five hundred yards where the first photo was taken One could not only see the yellow square with its jagged arrow indicating high voltage electricity but I could also read the much smaller lettering below "DANGER OF DEATH" I would guess that these letters are about two inches high. The whole fits (amazingly) in a box 11.25" x 5.5" x 4.5" depth (28.5 x 14 x 12 cm). Length 12" (30.5 cm)x height 12" (30.5 cm) Lid of box cracked and repaired (not brilliantly).
