Description:

Exceptionally large early jointed wood doll. This is certainly eighteenth century but it could be even earlier from the 'puritan' style - possibly late seventeenth century. Paintwork looks totally original with no touching up. I think there is new dowelling through the body to the top joints of the legs, but the rest look original. It is possible that the head has been separated from the body at some stage as there is a hairline mark round the top of the neck but if so this has been a fine almost invisible repair a long time ago. This is the largest example I have ever seen most examples are half this size or less - a fine and rare piece of treen. Length 28" (72 cm)
