Unnamed(?) tinfoil phonograph serial number 24. I have found 24 on four of the components of the phonograph so far, including the reproducer/recorder but I am virtually certain there are more on the rest of the parts under the rust. I attach the four images. Almost certainly of English manufacture, circa 1880, this tinfiol is very similar to one made by the London Stereoscopic Company and is offered in "as found" condition, located recently in an attic in Southsea, England. The mothpiece is made of wood and there is the remains of gold lining on the black paint under the grime. I attach an image of the wood mouthpiece by the side of the reproduced/recorder which shows the gold lining. Carefully cleaned up this should become much more visible on the black components. Baseboard 20" (51 cm) x 11" (28 cm)Cylinder length 3" (7.8 cm) diameter 4" (10.1 cm) Overall length of screw to handle 15" (38.5 cm) On one side of the cylinder there are black marks that may be writing - the problem is that this is the most heavily encrusted area of the phonograph and I can't work on it to try and uncover more evidence and sell the phonograph in "as found" condition. Maybe it's my wishful thinking but it looks quite different from the black on the other side of the cylinder. It wouldn't be the first time I have found a name on an unnamed piece in my business. In any case my price is based on it being unnamed so if a name is subsequently uncovered that will be a major bonus for my customer! The last image shows (as best as I can manage) part of what I think I am seeing as letters. Further round I think I see numbers. Angling it under a powerful light helps enhance what I think I see........
