Description:

Exchange Telegraph Co. Ltd. stock ticker under a glass dome with disc on top of the base "Patent No 14430 - 1902" This telegraph was different because it was designed as a stand alone printer to receive information only from a central transmitting telegraph. Many such stock tickers (so called because of the noise they made in operation) were serviced simultaneously from the same central transmitter and they were installed in newspaper offices and gentlemens' clubs as well as the Stock Exchange. They printed the stock and share information using the alphabet so it could easily be read by anyone present. This early example is in immaculate condition having spent its life under a glass dome. (I don't usually use the word immaculate, or 'mint' but in this case it is fully justified. No photo can really do justice to the reality). Higher resolution images on request if wanted. Until recently this telegraph had been on display at the British Telecom Museum but it was closed down recently and the exhibits were dispersed to other national museums in the UK. This stock telegraph was privately owned on loan so it was returned to its owner from whom it was purchased. There may be other examples of this very rare piece of kit somewhere but I guarantee than none are in better condition! Base diameter 7.9" (20 cm) height 11" (28 cm) Dome diameter 8.9" (22.5 cm) height 10" (25.5 cm). Packing free, transport at cost.
