Pocket compass in a fitted leather case (missing button on the side but the case opens easily anyway). To unlock the compass'needle'(actually a disc) pull up the rim about a quarter of an inch which releases the compass and allows the gimbals to operate. Compass disc Mother of Pearl, case nickle, condition of the compass immaculate. Nickle case diameter 2.125" (5.5 cm) I thought this would be a pocket barometer when I first saw it in its closed case but was amazed by this article as I've nerer seen one before. Apart from obvious uses this may have been made for baloonists. Date circa 1900 - (from the case design). This is a very high quality item.
