Nicole Frères musical box No.42494 (stamped on bedplate, written on tune sheet and stenciled on the base of the box). Playing four operatic ovatures - see photo for details - on a cylinder 12¼" x 3" (31 cm x 7½ cm), Inlaid marquetry box 22" x 9½" x 8" high (56 cm x 24 cm x 20 cm). All teeth original - no repairs or replacement tips, all dampers 'perfect', all pinning on cylinder complete and unbent. The tone is superb and the tunes beautifully set up playing chords. I don't seriously expect to sell this musical box from my web site as I think the customer has to hear a musical box before spending this amount of money. it's a bit boastful to put it on, but I want to show that occasionally Early Technology offers superb items. This is the finest sounding box I've ever offered for sale (out of about 200 over the years) and is just about as perfect an ovature box as you are ever likely to find. You wouldn't buy this box in New York or London for near my price in this condition. Date mid 1870s. Price includes delivery.
