Early Flexible Stethoscope

Catalogue number #886002119

[Thumbnail]
Flexible Stethoscope circa 1840

Description:

Very interesting and I believe very early flexible stethoscope with turned wood ends which were originally ebonised (slight traces remain particularly inside the trumpet end). The tube appears to be made of coiled wire covered with a worsted web. This is very similar to Dr Pennock's stethoscope of 1835 (U.S.A.) Length 36" I bought this item in France so it may well be of U.S. or continental manufacture A more detailed photo can be sent by email if requested
