Ericsson Telegraph Portable Station
Portable telegraph station signed A.B.(line one)L.M.Ericsson & Co (line two)Stockholm (line three) No 6322 (line four)contained in a beautifully made ash wood case with recessed handles. It opens up in an instant, the reels fold out (and the top one twists into position), the Morse tapper end swivels outwards. It slides out of the box on dovetails if required. Connect to the telegraph wires and batteries and you're in business in a couple of minutes. Complete down to the last screw, clockwork recorder inker, key, Morse tapper, tape, galvanometer, bell recorder, lightning protector, original bottle of ink in 'lockable' wood case, and screwdriver in rear compartment of the case. This telegraph dates from about 1890. It was the 'top of the range'and came to me direct from South Africa where it was said to have been used by the Boars in the Boar War 1899-1902 (England vs South Africa result draw). This is about the nicest piece of telegraphic apparatus I've ever had for sale. All the glass is bevelled and perfect and slides out for cleaning etc. If I collected telegraph I'm certain this would be one of my best pieces whatever else my collection contained. The degraded photos on this web site do not really do justice to this item. I can send larger images or close-up to anyone wishing to buy it direct. Size 15.5" (393 mm) x 6.75" (172 mm) x height 8.375" (223 mm). It is heavy and will be specially packed for safe transport. Price includes transport to anywhere.
