Anemometer by Casella circa 1865

Early anemometer by Casella as illustrated in their 1860s catalogue (illustration above). This must be one of their first as it has the seriasl number 34. My first record of this instrument is from "Instructions for taking Meteorlogical Observations with tables for their correction." drawn up by order of the Secretary of State for War by Colonel Sir Henry James, Royal Engineers 1861". A photocopy of parts of this with the anemometer illustration will be included with this item. The vanes fold up for transportation. The knob on the rear is for setting the hand. The instrument has a female screw thred on the base for mounting the instrument on a tripod. Full working order. height 13.5" (34.5 cm) diameter 17" (43 cm) base box 4" (10 cm) x 4.5" (12 cm) x 2" (5 cm)
