Eighteenth Century Cavallo type Electric Machine
Fine small Cavallo type cylinder electro-static machine circa 1780. The glass barrel mounted with removable V shaped blocks between the two wood arms of the stand.The glass cylinder 8.5" (22 cm) x 5" (13 cm) diameter turned by a crank (missing the retaining nut). The wood base is 16" (41 cm) x 8" (20 cm) the height is 13.5" (34.5 cm). The T-shape brass prime conductor is mounted on a turned wood stand and supported by a shaped red painted glass rod, length 16" (41 cm) height 13" (33 cm). Small portable eighteenth century generators were usually used for medical purposes - these early examples are not common.
