Builder's model of the J.A.P. Monoplane circa 1909
Built in the manner of the Blériot XI with seated pilot within the wire-braced quadrangular section wood (actually metal)fuselage, the strut-work construction with simulated flitch plates and sockets for strengthening, the nose-section with metal undercarriage frame, dummy suspension and two bicycle-type wheels, the rear wheel of similar type mounted towards the rear of the fuselage, with a beautifully modelled dummy 47hp J.A.P. vee-eight engine and twin blade propeller. The main planes arranged for wing-warping control, stayed above and below by simulated piano wire, th upper framework incorporating the dummy brass fuel tank and the mainframe coverings of simulated rubberised cloth with the tail plane and rudder similarly covered. The rudder is inscribed "J.A.P. J.A.Prestwich & Co Makers Tottenham London. The "rubberised cloth" is in poor, but stable condition - it doesn't fall like snowflakes when moved, even fairly aggressively! This is truly an exquisite made and important 'one-off" historical model. It was made for the company to promote its new aeroplane circa 1909 and comes with a letter of provenance. An example of the J.A.P. monoplane is preserved in the Science Museum's London aeronautical collection. The J.A.P. company was absorbed by Norton motorcycles who acquired the model with the J.A.P. historical archives. We made the glass case. Wingspan 15.25" (38.5 cm) fuselage 13" (33 cm)
