Miner's Safety Lamp "Clanny" type

After the introduction of the "Davy" safety lamp in the early nineteenth century in coal mines, efforts were soon made to improve it. The chief problem with the "Davy" lamp was its lack of light. An early improved version was the "Clanny" lamp of which this is an example by Thomas & Williams of Aberdere. This example is in good if dirty condition and dates from the second half of the nineteenth century. Not as rare as the original "Davy" but still a difficult and desireable lamp. Height 9"
